Grob G160 Ranger
The Grob Ranger is a single engine turboprop like there are so many nowadays. This one never exceeded the prototype stage. In particular the rounded top of the fuselage, when viewed from the side, differentiates it from the competitors. Other features are two piece curved cockpit windows, the small, nearly square cabin windows with rounded corners and the relatively short landing gear. Initially, the G160 had no winglets, but some time during the flight test phase these were added. (photo: Peter Bakema, used by permission)
Similar aircraft
Some airplanes look so similar to the G160 that you may confuse them. Below you can read how to distinguish them.
Differences G160 & Epic LT/E1000
The Epic LT & E1000 have two characteristic curved cockpit windows somewhat similar to thos of the Grob G160. Also the top of the fuselage is slightly rounded, but less pronounced. The Epic however has (nearly) round cabin windows and a nicely curved leading edge of the vertical stabiliser.
Differences G160 & Farnborough F1
The Farnborough F1 (a.k.a. Kestrel JP10 and One Aviation K-350) is very similar to the Epic LT/E1000, so they have the same similarities and differences compared to the Grob Ranger.
Differences G160 & M-101T Gzhel
This Russian single engine turboprop is similar in appearance to the TBM series. Even the cockpit side window looks much like that of the TBM. Those are signficant differences compared to the Grob G160, as are the engine cowling, three cabin windows and straight top of the fuselage.
Differences G160 & TBM series
Like the M-101 above the Daher TBM series have a straight top of the fuselage and four cockpit windows as main difference compared to the Grob Ranger.
Differences G160 & Ae270
The Ae270 looks a bit like a stretched TBM-700 with winglets. It is a bit bigger, has small winglets and six cockpit windows (instead of four). Those features are enough to avoid confusion with the Grob.
